Dmitri Vladimirovich Alekseevsky is world wide one of the leading experts in Lie theory,
pseudo-Riemannian geometry and mathematical physics. He is famous for his pioneering contributions in this area.
His work is often
characterised by the masterly application of Lie theoretic methods and has led
to new insights on the geometry of manifolds admitting Lie group actions, holonomy theory of pseudo-Riemannian manifolds,
and other central concepts in modern differential geometry.
The main motivation for his research, stems from differential geometry and mathematical physics.
He is also fascinated by the mathematical structures
underlying physical theories and from appllications of geometry in other sciences as neurogeometry and
control theory. The communication with a broad network of mathematicians and physicists has
led to fruitful collaborations across the interdisciplinary boundary.
In his long research career, Dmitri Alekseevsky has produced a number of important results in a great variety
of geometric subjects, while many of his constructions have been proved to be of
great importance in modern
theoretical physics.
